Joseph (Joe) S. Heed died on Friday the 13th. He was 86. Joe (aka the dark and brooding prince) was the loving, irreverent, and erratic father of Jim Heed, Mike Heed, Nancy Heed, David Heed, John (Sarah) Heed, Tom (Deb) Heed, Don (Marcee) Heed, and Sarah (Anthony) Lewis; and grandfather of Rhianna, Jimmy, Gabe, Dave, Aidan, Janice, Khyrin, Cydney, Nathan,Alexis, Aubri, Jahlil, Alex, Amaya, and Blake, and the great-grandfather of Riley, Santana, Carly, Kayla, and Jayda.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46250. A short memorial service will follow during which his family will tell their favorite stories about him, including, but not limited to, a hamster called Peg-leg Pete; the proper way to watch a movie; attire for talking to the police; pranks with seltzer bottles; and flying, flaming bees.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a charitable donation in Joe’s name. As a prolific father, he was a firm, albeit late, believer in family planning and gave generously to Planned Parenthood. He also contributed to National Public Radio, literacy programs, and the American Heart Association.
